My hubby bought some new olives..or rather ones I do not remember using before..they are Mezzetta Imported Spanish Queen Olives..I liked them good enough to write the name down to be sure I bought more..I put them in my broccoli-cauliflower salad..really good..too good..I sat here and ate the whole jar of them..
..Spicy pork Chops
..1/2 tsp salt combine first 3 ingerdients..spread mustard over chops sprinkle with salt mixture ..place flour in shallow dish..dredge chops in it cook pork chops on oil ..This is something else that was really popular. **update 2002**my daughter says she has started taking these to her new church and everyone loves them and wants the recipe..!!..** My daughter worked at a college. She did up a recipe book at one time. This recipe was contributed by Robin Fuller...Wendy made these for every party for years. 8oz Cream cheese softened Mix all ingredients well. Spread on bread with crust removed. Cut in half. Wendy later used cookie cutters for these. None were ever left! ..Mustard Museum.. I have always liked mustard. Especially the Guldens. It seemed up north we used that more than the other types. Be sure to look into the PuponU information. On TV one day someone made mashed potatoes and added horseradish to them. I said WHY NOT? I even used instant potatoes. I just made them as usual and added about a teaspoon of horseradish. Now I tend to add more. I made some for my hubby last night and he liked them. I imagine the leftovers will be good today fried with a bit of onion. My hubby had bought a different horseradish too. It is called inglehoffer thick and creamy. It is very good. So perk dinner up a bit tonight. I have been having a lot of problems with my hands recently. Though I have a dishwasher it seems I am always washing something out. I happened to think at one time I used the Palmolive for sensitive hands and swore by it. So, I got some again. I could not believe the difference in just a week. Like having new hands. Here are a few recipes that are favorites.. Yes..microwaves had not been what we had hoped..instant meals..but if you have not already done so try your microwave for acorn squash and corn on the cob and of course for asparagus.. Here is how I have made my slaw the last two times, it was really good. I shredded my cabbbage and onion by hand..a little work..but we all need more exercise. Then I let it sit in vinegar with salt and pepper about 3-4 hours in fridge. I soaked it. Drain vinegar. I used the red wine vinegar, this time I did not have any so I used the regular vinegar. Add your mayo. I like mine real cold. I also added pineapple chunks to some just before serving. ..cinnamon strips..easy and sooooo good..even with Equal.... more recipes.. ** Recently some remarks were made about not liking electric can openers. I do not care for them either. Many years ago I started using the Swing-a-Way can opener..**up-date 2008** I can no longer find them..I bought a similar one for just as much money and I have lived here just over a year and it is already torn up** I have told many people about these. This person says, yes, that is what I use. Think of it, is there a day most of us do not use one even in this modern world? The Swing-a-Way are the very best, last for years and make life much better!! This product is advertised in Good Housekeeping and has their seal. What more could you ask for? I basically clean mine good here and there with cooking oil. I may even soak it in it for a while. ** Recently I found some cherry pie filling with no added sugar..I bought the lite cherry cheesecake mix and made this..it was real good.. ** **NOTE**recently when I did this I had a bad spill which sat for some time, as I was gone, when I went to remove the foil, some of it came off on the shelf...but..this has never happened before. ** When you load your dishwasher, put spoons, forks, etc all in their own cube in your silverware holder, makes it much easier to unload.. I cook my corn on the cob and asparagus and acorn squash in my microwave. Originally I was told to do the asparagus for only 3 minutes, for me this is not enough. I cook mine more like 6 or 7 minutes. Hold your asparagus under cold running water, break where they naturally break. Place in Pyrex baking dish. Add a small amount of water, cover with wrap. I have told others about this, they all do it this way now. I wrote my friend, she wrote back telling me they raised asparagus, she sure was glad to know about this, she had tried it and was going to continue with it. For the corn do basically the same thing, I have done this for over 10 years now. I tried boiling my corn again, went right back to doing it this way. ** ** ** I buy the jars of onions..sometimes even two as they disappear. In saucepan melt margarine (probably about 1/4 stick regular margarine Parkay, Blue Bonnet) do not brown or burn. Add flour to thicken, gradually add the juice from the jar to this, add onions, pepper. I like to have the sauce at times, thinner to use on mashed potatoes as gravy. Contributed by Wendy Sellers from recipes given to her by friend Karla.. 6-tbsp butter Melt butter in large saucepan. Add crabmeat, eggs, onion. Heat thoroughly. Add milk and seasonings. Simmer for 20 mins without allowing mixture to boil. 1-cup catsup Combine all and shake well Many years ago when my daughter married someone made these...they are simple and so good... 1-cup brown sugar Mix sugar, pecans, margarine..spoon small amount onto crackers, placed on a baking sheet, bake for 10 minutes at 350.. These are another holiday treat. Really good and different.. 3--cups cooked, sliced carrots..I prefer fresh, not frozen.. Mix first 6 ingredients together, put in baking dish. Mix last 3 and spread over dish, bake at 300 for 15 minutes...dig in.. I made these and were they good, I love some hot right out of the oven and they are good cold too. from Sarah Keithley it takes 30 days to make this..all you need is a large glass jar with a loose lid ..Step 1.... pour 1 can peaches into jar with 1 cup sugar let sit 10 days.. ..Step 2....pour one can pineapple into jar with 1 cup sugar...let sit 10 days.. Pour one can cherries into jar with 1 cup sugar let sit 10 days..**the recipe makes no note of what kind of cherries to use...I would say the ones with the syrup good over vanilla ice or pound cake...a family treat for the holidays... ...Haystacks..from Marjorie Smith Ward As I simply can not bake cookies, this was something I made every year when my children were small, I still make them every once in a while. Do not substitute cheaper morsels. Sometimes I add additional items to them like cashews. Haystacks 6oz Nestles Semi-sweet chips melt morsels in double boiler with oil..pour over other ingredients in a large bowl...not every mixture will be the same..so do it by guess...spoon onto cookie sheet etc with wax paper. I refrigerate mine a while, then put in a big bowl....mmmgood.. ...Denise's Slaw Chop cabbage finely..chill well... add at last minute.... 1 pack grated cheese.... ½ bottle Bacos... small amount mayo..you want the bacon bits to have just lost their crunch.. This recipe has been handed down by countless generations on my mother's side of the family. It remains a treasured tradition for us during the holiday meals. 4--cups cranberries Cook cranberries in orange juice...dissolve gelatin in water..run cranberries and juice through food mill..add cranberries to gelatin..add sugar to hot cranberries and stir well..chill..when partly thickened..add pecans and fruit..pour into mold or bowl, chill until congealed... my son says this is really good This was another popular dish from Helen Hilsinger Golden Carrot Slices 2--lbs carrots Dressing 1--can tomato soup Mix dressing ingredients well. Set aside. Scrape and cook carrots. Drain and cool. Layer carrots, sliced onion, sliced green pepper. Pour dressing over top. Serve cold... ...Puppy Chow... 1-1/2 cup peanut butter

This is not an exact recipe, just something I did one year. My brother in law Jimmy Ward is good about throwing together peanut butter, jelly, lemon, mustard green cakes etc. Generally they are pretty good. I was having dinner this year, I had told Jimmy I would out-do him. The family had a bake-off contest. I mean, we really went at this. Christmas Eve I still had no cake, I said I can't let someone else win. So this was what I did. As I still have this original menu from 10 years ago, you can see why I did not have time for the cake.
We had
Turkey, cranberry sauce, dressing, mashed taters, ham, cabbage, duck, limas and tomatoes, rutabaga, corn, rolls, tea, olives, pickles, rice, sweet taters, apple sauce, Jell-O, salad, chestnuts.
I used a box of Duncan Hines spice cake mix, instead of the water use 7-Up. 1-tsp mayo instead of each egg. Use oil as shown, add 1 tsp slo gin. Broken walnuts, cherries, I had one green granny apple, one red apple. I used a carrot peeler and put some in the batter. I baked this in a big, big round pan I had, left it in the pan. Frost with home made cream cheese frosting. To the top I added everything I could. I had some kiwi even. I won, everyone said it was a real good cake, just very sweet. Even my chocolate loving son liked it.
...Pizza Dip...
Layer in pie plate:
½ package cream cheese...sliced black olives...shredded sharp cheddar cheese...1/2 can pizza sauce...bake at 350 about 20 minutes---serve with tortilla chips...I recommend Tostitos...they are the very best
This is a recipe popular a few years back, all at once I thought of it, tried it again, everyone liked it a lot...
Fry up a bunch of pork chops! I usually get a big pack of them.
In a large baking dish or pan combine 1--can Campbell's Cream of Mushroom soup (the plain kind)
1--can milk
Add pork chops, bake about 350 for an hour or so. I generally serve rice with this.
Want your house to smell good? People rave about these and can not believe how simple they are.
Combine equal amounts of barbecue sauce and grape jelly. I make plain meatballs, cook them in sauce. The smell is just great, everyone seems to love them. I have done this with the little smokies added too. I spoon some of the sauce over rice.
I hate to say this but I have seen others make fancy, fancy meatballs and most people seem to like these better. I started out using the Kraft plain sauce, later I used the molasses one, they seemed to like that, one time I did add a bit ot garlic powder and Lipton Onion Soup mix. Try the simple ones first.
During Christmas I found another simple recipe for these. Use 1/2 whole cranberry sauce to 1/2 tomato sauce..there was a discussion too about using the real meatballs rather than the store bought ones, most agreed the store bought ones were no good.
Please do not laugh utill you give them a try! Everyone does laugh or have that look of saying oh! yea! when I mention this. But, years ago I told a group of us talking about this, they got a big joke out of it, said there's no such recipe. Well, I found the recipe in a cook book. Which really it is no recipe. Here is what you do. I buy the cans of carrots, you throw them in a frying pan with margarine and burn them till black, really. Me and my hubby and daughter all love them.
I made a dessert with the Murray's gingersnaps and butterscotch pudding too. I crushed the cookies for the bottom, added the pudding, then put more cookies across the top. All with the sugar-free.
...Mom's Chicken Wing Spaghetti Sauce
1--or 2--32oz cans Hunts tomatoes--blended
1--small 8oz can tomato paste
dash of sugar, garlic powder, oregano leaves, parsley
chicken wings..1 is enough..3-4 may be used
Fry wings in small amount of oil, do not over fry, combine other ingredients in large pot. Add 1/4tsp oil, wings. Make and fry meatballs, add to mixture. Add sausage if desired. Cook 1-1-1/2 hours
Meatballs--1-1/2lbs hamburger, dash garlic salt, pepper, oregano, 1-egg, Italian bread crumbs as needed. You do not want it too dry.
...Barbecue..Kaboom!!..everything but the kitchen sink...
I make this here and there. It seems to go over big.
This is what I actually put in it one time. I go through the fridge and clean out those drops and spoonfuls left in bottles
here goes
Texas Pete Hot Sauce
French's Bold and Spicy Mustard
French's American Flavor Kikkoman Teriyaki
Old Dutch Sweet and Sour
La Choy Soy Sauce
Reese Prepared Horseradish
Del Monte Katsup, Heinz Catsup, Sun Drop Grape Soda
Basil, sweet relish,
garlic, salt, paprika, salt, pepper. Usually I fix a bunch of ribs with this.
I understand this is a popular dish, one everyone wants the recipe for, when I was up home that was exactly what happened, everyone wanted the recipe, she is asked to bring this. Now, someone who did not want to pass it on declared it a secret family recipe!
1--can whole kernel corn
1-can cream style corn
1-cup sour cream
1--stick butter
2--beaten eggs
1--small box corn muffin mix
Mix all ingredients together, bake 1 hour at 250 in glass casserole dish. This is great for buffets, church suppers, etc. Double or triple for big crowds. Remember to double or triple your baking dish too!!
...Mom's Rice Pudding...
